What lengths are available?

The NDS Mini Channel Drains (NDS #500) are only available in 6’ (foot) sections here, which can be easily cut to accommodate any length. Mini Channel drain grates come in three foot sections, so two channel grates are required per drain. A 3 foot section with 2" bottom spigot is also available for users looking to divert water below. This channel section can be used in conjunction with the Mini Channel drains to create a complete drainage solution that effectively directs water away from your property.

What color grates are available?

The NDS Mini Channel grates are available in colors of white (NDS #540), gray (NDS #541), green (NDS #542), black (NDS #543), sand (NDS #544), and brick red (NDS #551) NDS Mini Channel Grates are also available in two decorative styles, botanical (NDS #554) and wavy (NDS #555).

Are metal drain grates available?

Yes, Cast Iron Grates, Satin brass and polished brass grates are available for the Mini Channel Drainage System

What is the load rating for NDS Mini Channel Drains?

Load ratings for a drainage system vary on the specific channel grate used. The Iron and injection molded PVC Mini Channel grates are Class B rated and capable of supporting automobiles, light trucks, and medium-duty pneumatic tires up to 175 PSI at speeds less than 20 mph. The Mini Channel Brass grates are Class A rated and capable of pedestrian traffic, bicycles, and wheelchairs up to 60 PSI. /p>

Does the Mini Channel Drain ship with any accessories?

The Mini Channel Drain does not ship with any accessories. Each channel drain will require fittings for each end, two-channel grates, and 8 screws (4 Per Grate), which may be found here

Can the Mini Channel Drainage System make bends?

Yes, the Mini Channel is eligible to make bends. NDS manufactures prefabricated 45 degree angles, 90-degree angles, and Tees. The Mini Channel drain can also be cut to any angle using a miter saw. Once you have cut the channel drain to your desired angle, glue the pieces together and secure the joint before encasing it in concrete.

How do I connect the channels together?

Mini Channel drains are connected together by using Mini Channel couplings.

How does the water drain out of the Mini Channel Drain?

Water can be drained from NDS Mini Channel drains in one of two ways: through the bottom of the channel or the ends. To drain the water from the end of an NDS Mini Channel drain, you will need a spigot end outlet adapter for 2" pipe. To allow water to be drained from the bottom of the channel, you will need a specialized piece of mini channel drain (NDS #550)

Do I need to worry about the expansion and contraction of the grates?

NDS recommends that 1/8" be left in between each channel grate to allow for any expansion or contraction that may occur.

How much water can the channel hold?

Mini Channel drains hold approximately the same amount of water as a 3" pipe of equivalent length.

How do I glue on the accessories?

PVC glue may be used to attach Mini Channel accessories to the drain itself.

Can I use rebar or any other method to stake the channel sections instead of the 6” channel installation stakes?

Yes. The recommended method to install the channel is to drive a piece of ½” or 5/8” piece of rebar into the ground in the trench. Then drill small holes in the bottom flange of the channel. Next, insert tie wire into the hole and twist it onto the rebar such that the top of the channel sits 1/8” below the finished edge of the concrete. Example Below:

How are the grates connected to the channel?

The channel grates itself fit in the grooves within the Mini Channel drain. Four screws are required for each Mini Channel grate. Screws come at 50 per package and may be purchased here. The screws are stainless steel to decrease the amount of maintenance required.
