What is the NDS Dura Slope Trench Drain?

NDS Dura Slope is one of two pre-sloped drainage lines offered by NDS. In cases where heavy traffic is expected, the Dura Slope trench drain is a good place to start your search. This high-density polyethylene (HDPE) channels can endure Class D loads when equipped with suitable grates and a ductile iron collar. Dura Slope trench drains are perfect for a variety of uses, such as driveways, sports facilities, parking areas, warehouses, loading docks, and pools. With built-in sloping, the drains are much sought-after by engineers. Installers value their lightweight structure, while customers adore their striking appearance. The Dura Slope System is also resistant to freeze/thaw cycles and chemicals, including road salt. Each Dura Slope trench drain section comes with a blank grate insert that replaces the need for plywood, and each radius coupling includes a standard grate that can either be utilized as a blank or as a functional grate. Channel grate screws are provided with all Dura Slope trench drains and radius couplings. LeveLoc™ integral re-bar supports are located at 24” intervals along each side of the channel and contain an internal protruding knob designed to grip #3 or #4 rebar (3/8” – ½”) for easier channel height adjustment during installation. DuraLoc tongue and groove end connect allowing for a precise fit and ensuring straight channel runs, incorporating an integral snap-lock feature that prevents joint movement during channel installation. Each channel section is molded with a bottom outlet allowing for system versatility and ensuring proper drainage. Expansion joints must be provided parallel to each side of the drain run. Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I purchase NDS Dura Slope Trench Drains and accessories?

We're a little biased, but we believe there's no better place to buy NDS products than here at Drainage Connect. You can browse our selection of NDS Dura Slope products here.

What channel drain lengths are available?

NDS Dura Slope channel drains are available in 4 FT lengths. Dura Slope channel drains can run 194 feet of a continuous slope -- while 266 feet can be obtained with neutral sections included.

What color grates are available?

Dura Slope trench drain grates are available in White (NDS #660), Gray (NDS #661), Green (NDS #662), Black (NDS #663), Sand (NDS #664), and Brick Red (NDS #665)

Are metal grates available?

Yes! The NDS Dura Slope trench drain system offers a wide variety of metal grate options to accommodate load ratings up to Class D (326-575 PSI / 89,920 lbs per foot). See our selection here.

What is the load rating of NDS Dura Slope Trench Drains?

Loads are based upon encasing the product in concrete and on great selection. Dura Slope plastic (structural foam polyolefin) meets the Class B load rating (61-175 PSI / 28,100 lbs per foot), while ductile iron and cast iron meet the Class D Load rating (326-575 PSI / 89,920 lbs per foot).

Does the Dura Slope Trench Drain ship with any attachments?

Each section of Dura Slope trench drain section comes with two blank grates that eliminate the use of plywood. Two Dura Slope Profit Grate Locks are also included with all Dura Slope™ trench drains, which are used to prevent joint movement during installation.

Can the Dura Slope trench drain make bends?

Dura Slope Trench drains use radius coupling that is built with a ±3° range of angular motion. This feature allows Dura Slope trench drains to form a curved radius at the end of track fields. Each radius coupling comes with a plastic (HDPE) standard grate attached with two grate screws. Dura Slope™ radius couplings are available in four neutral depths and were designed to connect neutral Dura Slope™'s trench drain sections of the same depth. For a guide to the Dura Slope™ trench drain sections and their corresponding radius coupling, see the table below:

Radius Coupling Part Number and Description Corresponding Dura Slope Trench Drain
DSRC-097: 6.35" Deep Dura Slope Radius Coupling DSRC-097N: 6.35" Deep Dura Slope Radius Coupling

How do I connect the channels together?

Dura Slope Trench drains connect together using the built-in interlocking joints at the end of each channel. This drainage system also offers Dura Slop radius couplings that have a ±3° range of angular motion. This feature allows Dura Slope™ trench drains to form a curved radius at the end of the track

How does the water drain out of the Dura Slope Trench Drains?

Water can be drained out of NDS Dura Slope Trench drains in a variety of different ways. Dura Slops Trench drain has equipped with the ability to drill out the channel bottom outlet and install either a (NDS #DS-126) bottom outlet adapter , End Outlet (NDS #DS-227), or rather a Catch Basin (NDS #DS-340) . Note: Bottom outlets, drain outlets, and catch basins connected to the deepest end of the trench drain run.

NDS Dura Slope Trench Drain Installation

Do I need to worry about the expansion and contraction of the grates?

NDS recommends that 1/8" be left in between each grate to allow for any expansion or contraction that may occur.

How much water can the channel hold?

Dura Slope Trench drains have an inside nominal flow path width of 4"(101.6mm), with a bottom radius of 2" (50.8mm) to facilitate sediment removal. All Dura Slope trench drains are equipped to withstand a compressive strength of 2,900 psi, with material tensile stress of 4,550 psi and material flexural strength of 5,800 psi.

How do I glue on the accessories?

Dura Slope Trench Drains from NDS are made from PVC and can use PVC glue to secure attachments. Dura Slope Trench drains are made from HDPE and can have their attachments secured by welder contact adhesive.

How are the grates connected to the channel?

The grates themselves fit within the Dura Slope Profit Grate Locks . Grate screws are included with all Dura Slope™ trench drains and radius couplings.

How do I connect to the bottom of the channel drain?

When connecting to 4” sewer and drain (SDR35) pipe, cut out the bottom drain and insert the (NDS #DS-126) bottom outlet adapter . If using 4” schedule 40 pipes, connect NDS part #56-44 flexible coupling to the 4” pipe and then to the bottom drain of the channel. Tighten the clamps to secure them in place. Other diameter pipes can be connected to the channel drain using the appropriate flexible coupling.

How do I prevent concrete from filling the channel during the pour?

All Dura Slope Channels come with a removable cover. We recommend putting tape over the slots and screws before pouring concrete. After the concrete has been finished and cured, remove and discard the covers. The screws included are used to secure the grates to the channel

Do the NDS Dura Slope Channels have to be installed in a particular order?

Yes. All channel segments are labeled clearly with an NDS part number sticker. The channel drain sections must be installed in ascending numerical order starting with the smallest part number.

What is the built-in slope?

The fall in each sloped channel drain section of the Dura Slope channel is 0.34”. Each section comes with a built-in 0.7% slope. The neutral sections are included with flat bottoms.

What are the depths of the channels?

Each channel section is different. The shallowest channel is 3.99” from the bottom of the grate to the flow line in the channel. The deepest channel is 12.06” from the bottom of the grate to the flow line. All Dura Slope grates are ¾” thick.

What is the longest run that can be done using Dura Slope Channels?

Without the use of neutral sections (no bottom slope), the maximum length run is 96 feet. With the use of one neutral section in its designed place, the maximum length run is 132 feet. There will be 8.07” of fall in these runs. The channel can be lengthened by adding additional neutral sections. We do not recommend connecting more than 4 consecutive neutral segments together to allow for proper flow and prevent standing water in the channel.
